Oppo, I've been challenged. My friend just picked up a 2001 BMW 330d wagon (and it's a manual) and claims that it is definitely faster than the FiST. Tomorrow we are going to do some back road hooning and then eventually hit the 'Ring (yeah, that 'Ring) and see who can get the best lap of 3. So what say you Oppo, FiST or 330d?

Kinja'd!!!

*Not his but, it's the same color.

FiST.

Edit: If his is still stock, a 2001 suspension will be worn giving you an edge.

A 335i would likely beat you. A 330d? Likely not.

Crashing at the Ring would be bad, insurance won't cover it and you have to pay for any damages.

I hope you beat him so you can yell "you've just been FiSTed!!!!!"

or if you lose he can say "You can't handle the D"

either way, someone's going to be sore.

That is going to be a close one. The winner is probably just the better driver.

GOOD LUCK! :)

Just looked it up, the 330d sedan does 0-62 in 7.2 seconds. You got this in the bag easily in a straight line. On the track I'd say you've got it there too. The Fiesta is pretty damn quick in the corners, though it might come down to who had the balls to really flog their car.

If the nearly 15-year-old 330d is in perfect mechanical condition (that's a BIG if), it would be sort of close, but you'd still have the edge, even in that case. If it's NOT in perfect shape, he should be prepared to get spanked by a tiny little car.

Doesn't a 330d have like the same power as your car does? You will annihilate him.

that's the 03+. 01 is even slower at 7.8 seconds, lol. He's going to get crushed.

I've got some power and a good deal of lightness on my side, he does have a massive amount of torque available though

Top speed on the long straights is going to matter quite a bit as well.

How do the two compare flat out?

* looks like they both top out around 140, and I assume you can get there a bit faster (if you're willing to)

If you are going on the 'ring the driver who is either more lucky or more stupid will win. The cars will be quite head-to-head. Lack of self-preservation instinct will win this.

Just a little something to get you in the mood:

Kinja'd!!! Kanaric > Mr. FiSTer of Team FiST Fetish

Kinja'd!!!1

I don't think that's going to come in as a huge factor because where torque is at an advantage your weight is also an advantage.

The way I see it you have him beat in corners and long straights both.

I've personally hit 130 mph in the FiST, I'm not sure about the 330d but it is euro spec and thus built for the autobahn.

Kinja'd!!!1

Exactly. The cars aren't that far removed from each other and the differences between the two will only matter if both drivers have equal skill. The better driver will win this.

So it will really come down to who can carry more speed through the corners and accelerate the best out of the tight stuff. I think you've got him.

E46 330D: 141 mph and FiST: 137 mph, and that was 13 years ago for the E46. As much as the FiST should have him in the turns, even if it could still do 141, it shouldn't matter.

Honestly, with these two cars, it's probably going to come down to the the nut behind the wheel.

To be fair, that goes for pretty much any race between any car. If you put a 16 year old in a Veyron and someone with racing experience in a Stingray, the odds are with the person with the most experience.

I'm rooting for the wagon, but should be a good race. Traffic durring the lap will play the biggest role in lap times though. Let us know the result.

Yeah, plenty of instructors in Miatas school the novices in high-horsepower beasts around the track.

In this case, the cars seem pretty evenly matched. They really should do a best of 3, and then swap cars and do 3 more. Would be a much more interesting result.

In response to another commentor, talking about how driver ability will probably be the determining factor:

You have 20hp on him, but he has about 180ft-lbs on you. I'm fairly certain that you will win, unless he has more balls then you. Depends on the car's tires as well. it's gonna be close if the Bimmer is wearing any high-spec rubber

Keep in mind, they make about the same horsepower, and the FiST weighs at least 500lbs less.

...and seems to have incredibly neutral handling for a front-driver.

* for grins, looked back at what my '05 Mazda 3s could do: .88g (MT) and 69 in the slalom (Edmunds). Not too shabby...
